Fidium, formerly Consolidated Communications, has been asking the FCC for authorization to stop offering traditional landline service in parts of Maine, one group of local exchanges at a time. There is no single date when service will end statewide, so the timing depends on where you live. Before service can permanently end, Fidium must notify affected customers and obtain FCC authorization. Customers may be asked to switch to fiber, wireless, or another available phone service. Community Phone doesn’t use copper wire or internet, so none of this affects your service.
