Built for California

California is unpredictable. Your phone shouldn’t be.

Intentional shutdowns cut off service

California utilities cut power to keep wildfires at bay. PG&E blacked out 738,000 customers in 2019, and Southern California Edison did it to 180,000 in 2025.* Community Phone’s backup battery keeps your phone working for 26 hours without power.

Rural California has fewer options

Nearly a third of rural California households have no home internet subscription,* and cell service gets spotty outside of cities. Community Phone’s industrial-grade antennas provide strong coverage with no internet, even where cell phones struggle to hold a signal.

California leads the US in senior fraud

Californians over 60 reported more than $1.4 billion in fraud losses in 2025, the most of any state.* On average, Community Phone blocks 31,000+ scam calls per month in California. For customers using the robocall filter, 49% of all incoming calls were caught as spam.

Phone repairs take far too long

California requires phone companies to fix 90% of outages within 24 hours. By 2023, AT&T only fixed 39% of them on time.* With Community Phone there’s no wire to repair or technician to wait for. If you need help, talk to a real person in under a minute. No robots.

California’s phone rates keep going up

California ended the cap on basic home phone rates in 2009, then AT&T raised prices in nine out of 10 years.* There’s no cap on internet-based phone service either; rates jump when promos end. Community Phone has a Three-Year Price Lock, no contract or hidden fees.

California phone fact

In the 1890s, California’s farmers built their own phone lines when phone companies wouldn’t come out that far. They called it “farmer line service.”

Californians have always found a way to stay connected. Today, more than 2.9 million California homes still have a home phone.* You can keep yours.

Frequently asked questions about Community Phone in California

If you receive traditional AT&T landline service in one of the affected areas, service can end as soon as June 1, 2027. About 184,000 California homes are on the list, and the California Public Utilities Commission publishes a map of the included areas. Community Phone doesn’t use copper wire or internet, so none of this affects your service.

We have customers in 700+ California cities and towns, across all 38 of the state’s area codes. Just enter your exact address and we’ll make sure there’s strong coverage where you live. The Phone Base uses industrial-grade antennas to pull in the strongest local tower, so calls stay clear even in rural areas where cell service is spotty.

We confirm you have strong service before we ship anything. But if you still wind up feeling you’re not getting the coverage you expected, we’ll give you a full refund.

No, Community Phone is not a cell phone. It’s a home phone that sits on your table and plugs into a power outlet. Community Phone’s industrial-grade antennas pull in the strongest local tower, so calls stay clear where cell phones get spotty service.

Community Phone’s Home Plan starts at $45/mo, or $41.25/mo on the annual plan.
We also offer two other plans for your home:

Home Premium adds features such as call forwarding, number blocking and voicemail you can read as texts. It’s $59/mo, or $54.10/mo on the annual plan.

Loved Ones adds features such as voicemail transcriptions and managing an allowed list of trusted numbers. It’s $89/mo, or $81.60/mo on the annual plan.

The annual version of every plan includes one month free. Your rate is covered by our Three-Year Price Lock, and there’s no contract, so you can cancel anytime. Traditional providers lock you into long contracts and nickel-and-dime you with hidden fees. We don’t do either.

Before you pay a thing, we’ll confirm that you have strong coverage at your address. If you don’t, you get your money back.

Yes, you can keep your number and area code if you want to. We have customers across all 38 of California’s area codes. If you decide to keep your number, we’ll help you transfer it over. We’ll call your phone company for you if we can. If your carrier needs to get the transfer PIN directly from you, keep your last phone bill handy and we’ll walk you through the call.

Easier than you think. All you need is a power outlet and, if you’re keeping your number, a recent phone bill.

  1. We ship you the Phone Base. One dedicated representative handles your switch from start to finish.
  2. Plug it into a power outlet and wait for the dial tone. 30 seconds, no tools, no technician, no internet.
  3. Plug in the phone you already have. If you like your handset, keep it.
  4. Keep your number. We’ll transfer it for you. If your carrier needs a transfer PIN, we’ll walk you through that call.

Chances are, we’re already in your California neighborhood.

Whether you’re calling family from a cabin in the Sierra Nevada or checking in on your mom from an apartment in Fresno, you get the same dial tone. Confirm coverage at your address.
