# Community Phone > Community Phone is a US home and business phone service. The Community Phone Base plugs into a power outlet and connects any regular landline phone to nearby cellular towers, so it gives a dial tone without a phone jack, internet or copper wiring. Customers keep their current number or get a new one, with no contract. Key facts: - Works anywhere in the US with cellular coverage. Anyone can check their address at https://www.communityphone.org/coverage/check. - The Base works with the phones people already have, including cordless and multi-handset systems. It has a 26-hour battery backup, so the phone keeps working through power outages. - Setup takes minutes: plug the Base into power and plug the phone into the Base. No technician and no installation fee. - Built-in spam call blocking on every plan. Unlimited calling within the US. - Number transfer (porting) from any carrier is free and takes about 5 business days. Customers keep their current service until the transfer completes. - The Base ships in 3–5 business days, with free shipping. The Base costs $99 once; a phone handset is $39 extra. - No contracts, cancel anytime. Paying yearly costs less than paying monthly. Prices don’t include tax. - Customers manage their line, calls and voicemail in the Community Phone app and the online dashboard. - Sales and support: (866) 969-4886, Monday to Friday 8am–10pm ET, Saturday and Sunday 10am–7pm ET. Common reasons people switch: their carrier is retiring copper landlines, their landline is unreliable or expensive, they want a simple and safe phone for an aging parent, or their business needs a dependable phone line without an IT project. ## Plans and pricing - **Home**: $45/month, or $41.25/month billed yearly, plus $99 once for the Base.
